The Fieldworks program is an easy to use and powerful program for Land Surveying and Construction Layout applications which features full screen data entry, and fast, accurate execution. It uses the latest and most advanced Pocket PC hardware to provide unparalleled features and computation speed, and the Windows CE operating system to make it easy to learn and use. Fieldworks has been available for PocketPC's longer than any other surveying software, since May 2000. FieldWorks boasts such features as single keystroke measurement, easy to read display, simple transfer of data to and from your office PC, and plenty of storage capacity (600,000 points in a 64MB device, expandable.) The large display shows over 4 times as much information as most products, including full screen plotting. Fieldworks runs on a wide variety of different computers and downloads data from a wide variety of field equipment, both optical and GPS. Easy to integrate GPS with total stations in the same job. Easy to upgrade to a full CAD system using our optional PocketCAD addins to pick points from a drawing and plot-as-you-go based on point descriptions. There is a desktop version available so that you can use the same powerful software in the office and the field.

If you have a different Handheld or Palm-size computer (that runs
Windows CE such as HPC's with a keyboard), call or email XYZworks to request a version for your
favorite computer. We don't
run on the old HP 520 or 540 series. This is because the
screen is unreadable in sunlight, and Microsoft and HP have
discontinued support for the SH3 processor.
WARNING: Fieldworks will run
on the HP iPAQ 1700 and 1900 series, AT&T Tilt/HTC TyTnII
Phone, Dell Axim, and Toshiba e740, but they don't offer a serial
port so you cannot hook them to your Instrument. (unless you use
bluetooth.) Most of them have a cable port, but its only for USB,
not serial.
NOTE: If you have an
instrument that uses 1200 baud such as the older Topcon, Pentax
or Zeiss, the iPAQ 3600,3700 series
do not transmit properly at this 1200 baud only. For use with
these instruments, we recommend either the XYZworks Fieldbook, or
other iPAQs.
The different versions of Windows
CE are a source of confusion since its not as simple as desktop
Windows. There are different versions for each processor, ARM is
by far the most common. The Allegro 486 version, Sokkia 8100, and
Topcon FC-1000 are not ARM and will be hard to find software for.
Here are the different versions of WindowsCE:
1.) Most common is PocketPC which is on the iPAQ and includes a
lot of other Microsoft applications. Easy to find programs for
since there are millions of them sold. Later versions are called
Windows Mobile.
2.) Next most common is HPC or Handheld PC, which is what the
Panasonic, Fieldbook, and Ranger 500 are. These will run most off
the shelf HPC programs but not PocketPC ones. Later versions are
called CE.NET
3.) Then there are custom versions of HPC, like the original
Ranger, Allegro, and Trimble ACU which require special versions
of programs, some are more special than others and will not run
much software.
There are also vertical (iPaq, Panasonic) or horizontal (Fieldbook,
Ranger) screen formats, some software does not have a version for
both.
